Festival of the Forests
The National Arboretum’s Festival of the Forests is an annual community event held since 2009 and an important event on the Arboretum’s calendar. In 2012 the Festival will celebrate ‘A World of Forests’ with internationally themed food and entertainment. Other activities include guided walks and bus tours of the Arboretum, interactive displays on biodiversity and conservation as well as tours of the construction of the Visitors Centre. Kids can get involved with kite and craft making, a tree themed passport puzzle and orienteering activities.
The Festival in on from 10.00am to 3.00pm Sunday 1 April 2012 at the National Arboretum off the Tuggeranong Parkway.

New Open Government media release site and closure of Chief Minister's website
In line with the ACT Government’s commitment to making information easier to find, the website www.chiefminister.act.gov.au and media release subscription service will be closing down permanently on 3 April 2012.
From 3 April 2012, all ACT Government Minister’s media releases and ACT Government Directorate’s media releases will be available from the ACT Open Government website at www.cmd.act.gov.au/open_government
If you wish to receive ACT Government media releases you will be able to subscribe to the RSS feed of the ACT Open Government media release site.

Weston group centre master plan workshop
The ACT Government is preparing a master plan for the Weston group centre, which includes Cooleman Court. The master planning process will identify how the centre can be updated and reinvigorated over the next 20-30 years.
A design workshop will be held to discuss and refine master plan options with the community.

Constitution Avenue upgrade consultation session
Community feedback is invited on the preliminary design plans for the upgrade of Constitution Avenue.
In celebration of the Centenary of Canberra in 2013, the Australian Government has gifted $42 million to the ACT Government for the upgrade of Constitution Avenue. This project will deliver major transport infrastructure improvements including a dedicated bus lane in each direction, a separated cycle path, wider footpaths and a new central median planted with trees.
A community drop-in session will be held to give people the opportunity to view the design plans, provide feedback and ask questions about the project.
What: Constitution Avenue upgrade drop-in consultation sessions.
When: 4.00pm to 7.30pm, Tuesday 10 April 2012.

Tidbinbilla Extravaganza

Disability Community Visitor Scheme - Invitation to information sessions
The Community Services Directorate is establishing a Community Visitors Scheme. The Scheme will offer additional avenues for people with disability - and their families - to resolve their issues and personal concerns.
The role of the Community Visitor will be independent from any organisation, and will provide greater protection for people with disability in our community.
We invite you to come and hear more about the idea, and about the consultation process that will follow in the next few months.
The sessions will also be a chance for people to talk about a co-design process so that the Scheme meets the needs and expectations of the people it will support.

Have your say on the Oaks Estate Master Plan
The Oaks Estate master plan will define what is important about the area, including its character and quality for conservation and enhancement over the next 20 to 30 years.
People who live or work in or near Oaks Estate, or who use the area, have valuable knowledge to contribute to the planning process. The community is invited to contribute and help set the vision for the area, provide input into initial planning and review the draft master plan before it is submitted to the ACT Government for endorsement later this year.
Explore design options for the draft master plan with ACT Government planners at a public design workshop.

City to Gungahlin Transit Corridor Study Community Information Session
The City to Gungahlin Transit Corridor Study is investigating the feasibility of replacing the existing Red Rapid bus service between Gungahlin and City with a light rail transit (LRT) or bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor along Northbourne Avenue and Flemington Road.
The City to Gungahlin Transit Corridor is an integral part of the 2012 Transport for Canberra policy, which maps out ways to deliver faster, more convenient and more sustainable transport options forCanberra over the next 30 years.
The project aims to deliver high quality, fast public transport down one of the City’s busiest corridors, providing more incentive for people to use public transport and helping manage congestion as the corridor population continues to grow.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Forum to discuss the future
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body (ATSIEB) will host a community forum and free barbecue lunch at Boomanulla Oval on Saturday 21 April 2012 to start work on the ACT’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Plan. We need your ideas and input to help create the five year plan which will focus on priority areas including health, schooling, governance and leadership, economic participation and safer communities.
Come along, share lunch with your ATSIEB members and have your say.
